Lake Garda Trentino
Bastione Riva del Garda The Bastione of gray stone, located on the slopes of Mount Rocchetta, is one of the symbols of Riva del Garda, dominating the city and the lake. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, when Riva's Venetian domination had just ended, to guarantee greater security to the village below and its inhabitants, it was destroyed in 1703 by French troops led by General Vendome who mined the central body making the unusable fortress. It can be reached without difficulty with a road that climbs among the vegetation up to about two hundred meters of altitude. A more impervious path then leads to the church of Santa Barbara (610 m) and to the highest peaks of the Rocchetta (1520 m). The Bastion with the centuries has lost its original military function but, thanks to recent restorations, has retained its severe charm. It has recently undergone a conservative restoration, followed by the Superintendence for the Architectural Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento. The preparation of an information point in the adjoining rooms documents the discoveries and the work done. Those who visit can admire the massive external structure and what remains of the interior. No less interesting is the view of the city below and the magnificent panorama of the Alto Garda. .
